Some things never die, like Mick Jagger

I haven't seen it yet, but I've been reading all these negative reviews for The Simpsons movie. Everyone is saying this movie is coming out 10 years too late or The Simpsons has lost its panache. What do I say to that? Worst. Review. Ever.

Sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I'll take this opportunity to show mine.

This movie was going to come sooner or later. Why not now, during a summer movie season that's sucking (with the exceptions of Knocked Up and Super Bad)? Sure I sometimes get annoyed with some of the new shows that are a bit too liberal for me, but the Simpsons is still entertaining and engaging.

As pointed out in one review, Homer is getting a bit more mean and stupid, but I think its funny. The show is evolving with time. Mr. Burns is getting more evil, Smithers more gay and Ralphie more screen time. Sure it will never be as good as it was in the 90's, but that's no reason to dog the show or not see the movie.

Anyway, how you can not see a movie with Spider Pig in it? It's almost a sin.

Not Me

A recent conversation brought a great Simpson's moment to my mind today-- Homer finishes up his Family Circus album, sighs in relief and then tosses it in the fire.

That moment really sums up the general feeling for Family Circus. It's only fit for fire.

I'm not sure how the family-friendly comic strip has lasted for as long as it has. I understand it may have appealed to American back in the feel-good '50s, but we're now in the 21st century and humor has gotten a little more cutting edge.

I'm not saying that you have to constantly swear and be dirty to be funny (like this Family Circus mockery), but I just can't see what's so funny about two kids watching a ventriloquist on TV and saying "How can a ventriloquist throw his voice when I can't even pick mine up?"

Wait a minute, I think I get it now and it's quite funny. Don't I feel foolish.

That Didn't Suck

Kudos goes to the Simpsons for their 400th episode.

It's not like the Simpsons can ever do wrong, but I was very pleased with the events that got Kent Brockman kicked off the news.... They pretty mirrored the Imus situation to a T.

Yay for exposing the liberal weinies that sit around and listen to shows just so they can find something offensive to complain about. Those people really need to get a real job.

*Note to our readers: I know that conservatives have groups watching the liberals, but just like global warming, I refuse to say it exists. That and those liberal nut jobs need to be monitored. If they took over the world no one would shower and everyone would be sitting around singing "Kum By Ya."

Damnit George

GW decided to break into the Simpsons so he could explain why he vetoed the war spending bill. Is that really necessary? I think we've all heard for weeks that GW was going to veto the bill if it set a timeline for withdrawal of the troops, so no explanation is needed. Hell, you're the president, you can't get re-elected so why explain? Do whatever you want GW.

I don't really care about the bill. I know troops won't be leaving the area for a while. I won't get into whether or not I think the war is right, but I think one day all the Iraqis should wake up some morning and all the soldiers should be gone. But before they all start to celebrate, they realize the soldiers took all their goats.... Take that Iraqis.

This explanation is taking a little too long. Couldn't he have just dropped us all a quick e-mail? He's interrupted about five minutes if the Simpsons so far and I am not amused. I know the show has been on for years and it's on every night, but come on. Couldn't they have explained this in a more entertaining way? Homer refuses to pay for a donut he ate and Bob tries to kill Bart again. Viola!
